Geo-Scheduling for Mobile Spray Tan Artists: Stop Driving in Circles
Mobile spray tan artists lose 40+ minutes a day to inefficient routing. Here's how to schedule bookings by geography, not just time slots — and the one tool that automates it.
Mobile spray tan artists drive for a living. A client in midtown at 11. Across town at 12. Across town again at 1. By the end of the day you've logged 85 miles in a city with a 12-mile diameter — because your booking tool let clients pick whatever time slot was technically free, with no idea where the previous client lived.
That's not a calendar problem. That's a geography problem. And until last week, no booking platform built for spray tan artists solved it.
The hidden tax on mobile artists
I talked to a mobile artist in California recently — Lilli, who runs GlowToGoGo. She uses Square. She's a year into her business, fully booked most weeks, and she said this:
> "I'm completely mobile so I go to people's houses. Figuring out how to schedule mobile tans more efficiently from a geographic standpoint would also be super helpful."
She's not wrong. Mobile booking platforms — Square, Vagaro, Booksy, GlossGenius — treat bookings as time slots and nothing else. They were built for hair salons where the client comes to you. The artist's daily route is invisible to the software.
The cost shows up in three places:
- **Lost revenue.** Every 40 minutes of unnecessary driving is a $65 spray tan you could have done.
- **Late arrivals.** When a client books 11:30 and another books 12:00 across town, you're either late or rushed. Both cost you reviews.
- **Mental load.** You re-plan the day every morning in Google Maps. Mobile artists I've talked to spend 10–20 minutes a day just figuring out the order to drive.
What geographic scheduling actually does
Three things, end to end:
**Smart booking slots.** When a client picks a date on your booking page, the booking tool checks where your other appointments that day are. It then scores each candidate time slot by drive time from the previous appointment. Slots that would force a backtrack across town get hidden. Slots adjacent to existing bookings in the same neighborhood get scored higher. The client never sees a slot that would make you late.
**One-tap daily route.** When you open the app in the morning, you see your day as a numbered map. Stops in the optimal driving order. Total miles, total drive time, a "leave by 9:42 AM" badge on each stop that updates as the morning ticks forward. No more re-planning in Google Maps.
**Client density heatmap.** In your analytics page, every past appointment becomes a dot on a map of your service area. Density tells you where your business is concentrated. Useful for picking where to advertise next, deciding whether to expand your radius, or pricing premium neighborhoods.
Why no general booking tool builds this
Geographic routing requires every client to have a stored address (geocoded into latitude/longitude), every appointment to know that location, and a routing engine sitting somewhere between the calendar and the booking page. That's a vertical-specific bet — the kind of thing a generic platform won't build because their customer base is 90% studio-based and only 10% mobile.
For spray tan specifically, the math is reversed. Most artists run a mobile business, a hybrid model, or do mobile add-ons. Building geographic routing in to spray-tan-vertical software pays off for almost every customer.
That's exactly what Bronzly just shipped.
Quick start for mobile artists
If you want to try it, here's the setup. Takes five minutes once.
- **Pick your home base.** In Settings → Service Area, enter the address you start your day from. Usually your home or a coffee shop you stop at first.
- **Set your radius.** Default is 30 km. If you don't go further than that, leave it. Bronzly will warn you if a client books from outside your radius.
- **Set your drive buffer.** Default 10 minutes. This is the cushion between when you finish one tan and when the next is scheduled to start. The smart slot engine respects it.
- **Optional:** travel surcharge cost-per-mile. Useful for analytics and for charging clients who book outside your standard area.
After setup, every new client booking is geocoded automatically. Your daily route view fills in the moment you have two or more appointments on the same day.
The fee structure
Bronzly is $79/month after a **30-day free trial** for solo and mobile artists (Glow tier). The trial waives the SaaS fee only; the 2.99% transaction fee on bookings applies during the trial.

FAQ
**Does this work if I'm not full-time mobile?**
Yes — hybrid (studio + mobile add-on) artists get the same geographic scheduling for their mobile appointments. Studio-only artists can still use the radius + heatmap features but won't see daily route maps.
**What if a client doesn't share their address until booking is confirmed?**
The booking page asks for the address on the same form as the time slot. If a client picks a slot first, the page rescores once they enter the address — they'll see "this slot might run late" warnings before they submit.
**Does Bronzly use my client data for anything?**
Addresses are stored on your studio's database, isolated by org. Bronzly uses Mapbox (industry standard, GDPR-compliant) to geocode addresses into coordinates. No client data is shared with third parties beyond the geocoding lookup itself.
**Can I use this for non-spray-tan businesses?**
Bronzly is built for spray tan artists only. Other vertical mobile businesses would need to wait for purpose-built tools — or build their own.
**What's the catch?**
You have to switch from Square / Vagaro / Booksy. That's the real friction. The trial gives you 30 days to test whether geographic routing changes your daily workflow enough to justify the move.
