Contraindications

Conditions or recent activities that make a spray tan inadvisable or require technique modification.

Contraindications are conditions or recent activities that make a spray tan inadvisable or that require technique modification by the artist. The standard contraindication list: pregnancy (DHA absorption is minimal but FDA cautions against inhalation — nose plugs and lip balm required); recent waxing within 24 hours or laser within 48 hours (open follicles cause dark dotting); recent sunburn (compromised skin barrier produces uneven uptake); active eczema or psoriasis flare (alcohol in solution can sting; uneven uptake on plaques); hormonal acne with active breakouts (dark dotting on whiteheads); recent retinoid or chemical peel use (compromised stratum corneum); known DHA allergy (rare, but some clients react to dyes or fragrances). Bronzly's intake form flags contraindications pre-appointment so the artist can adjust solution choice, technique, or recommend rescheduling.
