Skin prep is the set of steps a client takes 12–24 hours before a spray tan to maximize the result. The standard prep checklist: 24 hours before — shave or wax (waxing 24h+ minimum to avoid follicle dotting); 12 hours before — exfoliate with a gentle scrub or exfoliating mitt; day-of — no moisturizer, no deodorant, no makeup, no perfume, no lotion. All of these create barriers that prevent DHA from reaching the skin evenly. Wear loose dark clothing and flip-flops to the appointment to avoid disturbing the wet solution before it dries. Most no-show or refund complaints in the spray tan industry trace back to inadequate prep, not poor application. For this reason, Bronzly automatically sends prep instructions via SMS 24 hours before every appointment and includes a confirmation tap-back in the message so the artist knows the client received and acknowledged the rules.
